Tips for fashion education

  • make CSR and sustainability a permanent and integral part of the teaching programme and the curriculum
  • integrate CSR into many different subjects and highlight it as an important aspect
  • create a separate basic course in CSR
  • place this basis course at the beginning of the programme, not at the end
  • train teachers in CSR
  • exchange experiences, knowledge and teaching styles between different programmes
  • set up a network of teachers of fashion among the institutes of higher learning in the Netherlands who are eager to introduce CSR
  • look for practical ways of working; have students analyse successful examples and have students tackle the subject on their own
  • see what the programme itself can accomplish with regard to CSR (food in the cafeteria, personnel policy, reducing pressure on the environment)
