People, Planet, Profit
CSR is an essential aspect of corporate management and strategy. It’s the way a company makes its product or offers its services. It means trying to strike a balance between three different results: economic, social and ecological. This is Triple P: People, Planet en Profit, a term that was devised in 1997. Profit has to do with a company’s financial performance. Without profit a company can’t keep running. But People and Planet always determine the conditions under which that financial profit can and must be made.
People has to do with the people inside and outside the company. How does the company treat its employees? What sort of relationship does it have with the local community and the environment in which the company is located? And how is the chain of production put together? Does it rely on child labour, for example? Is there any evidence of discrimination on the basis of sex, skin colour or religion?
Planet has to do with impact on the environment. How much and what kind of raw materials are used by the company? Does the company pollute the local environment with unnecessary noise or the emission of poisonous substances?
The three P’s look not only at the company and its immediate surroundings but also at the entire chain of production. http://www.globalreporting.org/ http://www.duurzaam-ondernemen.nl/ http://www.mvonederland.nl/ (for more website address go to Links)
